JBN News No.6

Dear Jive by Nighters,

Welcome to Jive by Night News No. 6!

Check out the new events/venues/moves bar to your left – we’ve got so much happening that we had to change our format!!!

***INTRODUCING JANUARY***

After the Christmas Break, it’s definitely time to get your dance shoes out, and work off some of that Christmas pudding and chocolate!  Jive by Night has just confirmed a great program of workshops, social dancing and classes for January, so make sure you keep the following dates free!  See the calendar at the bottom of the e-mail to start planning your January’s dancing!

FREE-STYLE-ABLE STYLE WORKSHOP

FRI 11TH JAN – PART 1

SAT 19TH JAN – PARTS 2 & 3

This is the workshop you’ve all been waiting for.  It’s where we take elements of style, such as arm movement, footwork patterns, slides, and yes, even body rolls, and teach you how to incorporate them into your freestyle.  The workshops will be practical, and focused on how you can actually lead/follow style elements, and thus incorporate them in your freestyle.  There are three parts to the workshop – part one is being taught on Friday 11th Jan from 7pm at Club JBN, followed by social dancing, band parts 2 and 3 are being taught on Sat 19th Jan.  Part one will be of a more basic level, with parts 2 & 3 becoming more complex.

CATCH THE HITS WORKSHOP

(Dips, Drops and Freezes)

SAT 26TH JAN

If you’ve ever wondered how it is the best dancers seem to find exactly the right spot in the music to pull off the dips and other flashy moves?  Well, don’t wonder any more, this workshop is for you.  In this workshop we’re going to teach you a whole bunch of funky dips, drops, freezes and checks that you can use to highlight your dancing.   We’re also going to look at when then best time is to use them, and give you some tips and practice at finding those perfect spots in the music.  Come along, and learn how to really use those cool moves you know to make your dancing look really spectacular!

WELCOME BACK TO CLUB JBN DINNER DANCE NIGHT

FRI 4TH JAN

To celebrate the start of the new year, we’re going to kick off with a fun, social dinner/dance night.  I’ll book us in at a nice café/restaurant either on Hutt or Rundle St, to start off the night, then we’ll open up Club JBN with a great night of social dancing fun and games!

Further details such as venues and specific times for the January program will be released shortly, so keep your eyes out!

***THE DIRECTOR’S CUT***

Don’t forget our End of Year Party!

TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!!

Make sure you see the door person to book your ticket – it’s going to be a phenomenal night

***CLUB JBN***

It was great to see so many of you there this Friday night.  Hope you all enjoyed the game of ‘Musical Dance Partners,’ – I certainly had a lot of fun watching…. =) Sadly, we farewelled Zoe, who is leaving us for Bali for the next three months.  Good luck in Bali Zoe, and we’ll all be eagerly awaiting a dance and a chat when you get back.  We had a great going-away-jam for Zoe and cool birthday jam for Gavin!

Looking forward to more fun and games this week.  Come along for a spinning entry one arm dip and other funky moves!

***GUESS THE MOVE***

And signal,

Side by side,

To the front,

And spin

And spin

And catch.

***TRIVIA***

  1. Choreography count divides music into lots of 8 beats, whereas when music is notated (ie written down) it is usually divided into lots of 4.  So when we count in dancing we usually count 2 musical bars.
  2. Dancing is definitely exercise!  Kylie wore her pedometer at Club JBN on Friday, and she managed to step over 7km in distance!  Great work Kylie!

***JIVE BY NIGHT NORTH***

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Happy Confi-Dancing, remember that a smile given is usually returned… =)

Have a great week all,
